The short version
Quick verdict
Stay on Instantly if you already own domains and mailboxes, work from verified lists, and specifically want a fast, cheap sender with a built-in lead database, a CRM and open and click analytics.
Switch to TOM if you want the whole process in one place: buy the domain, create the mailbox, verify the list, generate the copy from a structured brief, send inside the prospect's timezone, read the replies — on one flat $49/month plan with unlimited sending and no credit charged per generated email.
The two tools are not the same object. Instantly is an excellent sender. TOM is an outreach process: a shorter pipeline where the most tedious steps — registrar, DNS, mailbox provider, verifier, AI writer, billing — are product features instead of separate accounts. Both approaches are legitimate. They just fail at different scales and for different reasons.
Why people look for an Instantly alternative
In practice, four reasons come up over and over in conversations with teams that leave a standalone sender — or run one next to a spreadsheet of five other tools.
- The invoice is split across four vendors. Registrar for domains, Google or Microsoft for mailboxes, a verifier for the list, an AI writer for the copy, the sender for campaigns. Four logins, four support threads, four renewal dates.
- Volume pricing punishes testing. Plan tiers cap contacts and monthly email volume; every new test list and every new segment pushes the account toward the next tier, even when the sending itself costs nothing extra.
- The deliverability work is left to you. Warmup exists, but the discipline around it — which addresses are safe to send to, which list is verified, what happens when a mailbox goes quiet — is still a manual process.
- "AI" means a text box. A generic writer produces text; it does not choose a structure, respect a tone, follow a brief or write in the prospect's language. Reaching for a framework usually means writing the prompt yourself, every time.
What Instantly does well
An honest comparison starts with the strengths, because Instantly has several that TOM does not try to replicate.
- Unlimited sending accounts and unlimited warmup on the entry plan — for teams that already own infrastructure, that is remarkable value at the $47 tier.
- A 450M+ B2B lead database with enrichment, filters, job-posting and funding signals, sold through Instantly Credits.
- A unibox plus an AI reply agent on higher plans: replies can be answered, classified and followed up without leaving the tool.
- Agency-grade analytics — open, click and reply data, deliverability tests, placement checks — and an ecosystem of templates, community prompts and integrations that a young platform cannot match yet.
- Done-for-you email accounts — Instantly sells domains plus inboxes as a managed service, which is genuinely useful for teams that want zero setup at all.
If those are the things you buy a sender for, Instantly does them well. The gap TOM fills is everything around the sender.
What Instantly costs in 2026
Here is the public pricing on Instantly's own pricing page in September 2026, reduced to what matters for comparison.
| Instantly plan | Price | What it includes | What pushes you up |
|---|---|---|---|
| Growth | $47/month | Unlimited email accounts, unlimited warmup, 1,000 uploaded contacts, 5,000 emails per month, chat support | More than 1,000 contacts or 5,000 emails per month |
| Scale | $194/month | 100,000 emails per month, 25,000 uploaded contacts, 5,000 Instantly credits, AI Reply Agent, advanced deliverability features | More than 25,000 contacts or 100,000 emails per month |
| Hypergrowth | $358/month | Everything in Scale plus 5,000 Instantly credits per month and higher volume | Enterprise volumes; separate sales process |
| Credits | $47/month for 1,500 credits | The 450M+ lead database, enrichment, waterfall email finding | Lead volume and enrichment depth |
Two things are worth noticing. First, the entry price is real: if your workflow fits inside 1,000 contacts and 5,000 emails per month, $47 is hard to beat. Second, domains, mailboxes and verification are not in those plans. You either bring infrastructure you bought elsewhere, or you buy Instantly's done-for-you accounts as a separate product, or you use their verification and credit products on top. The stack grows quietly from $47 to $200+.
TOM's pricing, for reference
$49/month Core plan with unlimited sending and AI copywriting included — no credit consumed for each generated email. Google Workspace mailboxes are bought in blocks of 3 at $14.97 per block per month. Domains are purchased in-app at their live price and renewed annually. Verification runs on one-off credits that never expire: 5,000 for $6, 10,000 for $12, 20,000 for $22.
The other half of the workflow
When a sending platform is the centre of your stack, six jobs still belong to you:
- Buying and configuring domains. Registrar, payment, DNS records, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, redirect — and remembering to renew before the domain expires.
- Creating mailboxes. Purchasing seats, setting names, avatars, signatures, forwarding addresses, and keeping daily sending limits sane per inbox.
- Verifying lists. Sending a CSV to a verification service, paying for credits that may expire, downloading the cleaned file, re-importing it.
- Writing the copy. Turning a rough offer into a structured email — and doing it again for every persona, every language and every follow-up.
- Watching replies. Bounce handling, autoreplies, off-channel answers, forwarding rules that live in your mailbox provider, not in the outreach tool.
- Reconciling billing. Three to five invoices arriving from three to five vendors, each with a different renewal date.
TOM's entire design argument is that these six jobs are the product, not the prerequisites. See how the flow works on the homepage or read the broader comparison of cold email tools if you are still mapping the market.
TOM vs Instantly, capability by capability

The four differences that matter
1. Deliverability is governed, not hoped for
In TOM every address carries a green, yellow, red or gray traffic light, and every campaign declares the minimum quality it will accept. When a list is still being verified, the pre-flight check blocks the launch — and unverified contacts require an explicit, logged decision to proceed. Warmup is automatic per mailbox and stays honest in the other direction too: when a mailbox stops sending, its daily limit drops by one email per day, never below one, and climbs back gradually on resume. The send engine spreads each mailbox's daily volume across the window with a stable jitter, so no inbox ever fires in bursts at fixed times.
2. The AI follows a method, not a mood
TOM's generator is an assistant, not a text box. You describe the product, the target's main problem, the call to action, the sender profile and the signature — then choose one of 12 copywriting frameworks (AIDA, PAS, FAB, 4Ps, QUEST, SCIPAB, STAR, 4Cs, 3Ws, KISS, BAB, QVC). The AI writes inside that structure, in the campaign's language (21 supported, independent from the interface language), with the tone you selected, and generates the follow-ups as part of the same sequence. If you want to see what method-based copy looks like, the frameworks guide has an example for every structure.
3. Infrastructure and copy billed like utilities, not like tiers
TOM's Core plan is $49/month with unlimited sending. Domains, mailbox blocks and verification credits are the only extras, priced at cost or per use, and shown with the exact charge before you confirm — including the prorated total when you add or remove a block of three mailboxes. Verification credits never expire. Nothing charges you again because a list got longer or a month had more working days.
4. The replies stay yours
Forwarding is mandatory at mailbox creation, so a prospect's answer never dies inside a tool. Bounces and autoreplies are classified, partial bounces live at the single-address level rather than nuking the whole contact, and if someone answers by phone you can mark the contact as replied manually — with a revert if you change your mind.
What a month really costs
An illustrative scenario: 3 domains, 9 mailboxes, about 5,000 cold emails per month against a 5,000-contact list. Prices as published in September 2026; treated as an example, not a quote.
| Line | TOM | Instantly |
|---|---|---|
| Platform | $49/month (unlimited sending, AI included) | $194/month — Scale, because Growth caps at 1,000 contacts and 5,000 emails |
| Mailboxes | $44.91/month — 9 mailboxes in 3 blocks at $14.97 | $64.80/month for 9 Google Workspace seats at list price, or Instantly's done-for-you service |
| Domains | Bought in-app at live price; roughly $2.50/month amortized for 3 domains | Bought elsewhere, same order of magnitude |
| Verification | $6 one-off for 5,000 credits, never expiring | Separate verification product or credits |
| Monthly total | About $96/month | About $261/month before verification and credits |
Two honest footnotes. If your volume fits inside Growth's limits, Instantly at $47 is cheaper than TOM — and it should be, because you are buying less of the process. And TOM's mailboxes reach their full 25-email daily capacity only after the warmup ramp, so the first month on a brand-new domain is intentionally slower than the math above.
When Instantly is enough
Domains, mailboxes and a verified list are in place and working. You are buying a sender, nothing else.
Prospecting from a 450M+ contact database with enrichment signals is core to your motion — that is Instantly Credits territory.
Open, click and A/B data drive your decisions. TOM deliberately does not add pixels or wrapped links.
Templates, prompts, integrations and a large user base are real assets when your team is scaling fast.
Moving from Instantly to TOM in five steps
- Import the list. Upload CSV or XLSX, map the seven fields (first name, last name, role, company, company description, website, email), and let the dedupe run inside the file and against the database. Kick off verification on import: one credit is consumed only when an address is actually checked.
- Buy or plan the domain. Pick the domain in-app — availability and live price are shown before checkout — and configure redirect and the DMARC email. Renewal is annual.
- Create mailboxes in blocks of three. Add an avatar, a signature and the forwarding address that will receive replies. Warmup starts immediately at 1 email per day per mailbox and climbs to 25.
- Build the campaign from a brief. Product, problem, CTA, sender profile, signature, then the framework (PAS, KISS, AIDA and the other nine), the tone, the campaign language, the sending window and timezone, the weekdays and up to two follow-ups.
- Launch through the pre-flight check. The system blocks launches on lists still being verified and asks for an explicit decision on unverified contacts. From then on, watch the control room: per-contact status, KPI of targeting and sequence, and full reply threads.
FAQ
Is TOM a drop-in replacement for Instantly?
For sending and sequences, yes: contacts, campaigns, follow-ups and replies all exist in TOM. The differences are deliberate. TOM has no lead database, no open and click tracking and no reply agent; it replaces the rest of the stack instead — domain purchase, mailbox creation, warmup, verification credits, method-based AI copywriting and consolidated billing.
Can I keep using my existing domains?
Domains and mailboxes in TOM are created and managed in-app, with SPF, DKIM, DMARC and reply forwarding configured for you. External SMTP or IMAP mailbox connection is not part of the current product, so the cleanest migration is to run new domains and mailboxes in TOM alongside your existing setup.
How much does email verification cost in TOM?
Verification runs on one-off credits that never expire: 5,000 credits for $6, 10,000 for $12, 20,000 for $22. One credit is consumed only when a verification actually runs, every address gets a green, yellow, red or gray traffic light, and you choose the minimum threshold per campaign.
Does TOM track opens and clicks?
No, by design. TOM does not add tracking pixels or wrapped links to cold emails, because they add deliverability risk to every message. Teams that need open and click analytics inside their daily process should factor that trade in before switching: what you gain in inbox placement, you give up in measurement granularity.
What happens to replies in TOM?
Every mailbox must include a forwarding address, so replies land in the inbox you choose. Full threads are also readable in the app, bounces and autoreplies are detected, and a contact can be marked as replied manually with revert for answers that arrive off-channel.
How much does TOM cost compared to Instantly?
TOM is $49 per month with unlimited sending and AI copywriting included; domains, Google Workspace mailbox blocks of three ($14.97 per block per month) and verification credits are the only extras. Instantly starts at $47 per month but caps contacts and monthly email volume, so higher volume moves to the $194 or $358 plans, with domains, mailboxes and verification handled separately.
